Pete Edochie: Again, the Ebubedike Towers!

There are many reasons why the hero of Professor Chinua Achebe’s ‘Things Fall Apart’ screen adaptation, the ‘Ebubedike’ himself, Chief  Pete Edochie, always conquer the hearts of many each time he steps out.

Talk about his towering image, urbane mien, comportment and unassuming ready-to-relate with all and sundry nature and you are very correct.
The Enugu-based all-round thespian, showstopper and lover of Igbo culture and tradition was at his best once again when he stepped out not only as an award recipient or guest but ‘’lecturer’’ and custodian of Igbo culture and tradition at the Igbo Awards event last weekend.
The multiple award winner and star of many hit movies arrived the venue early enough and turned the cynosure of all eyes. It was also a different ball game when he mounted the stage to receive his award the hall got electrified, enveloped by thunderous applause from the crowd.
The organizers made no mistake, the award conferred on him ‘’Iconic Ambassador of Igbo Tradition and Culture’’ was quite befitting. And in appreciation, he went down memory lane to reel out why the hard-fought battle must be won to give a true sense of belonging to Ndigbo.
‘’There are many flaws that are still being committed by Ndigbo but opportunities like this provide the solutions. So I must commend the organizers for doing it right,’’ he stated.
The ‘’Enyi’’ as he is also called, remained the centre of attraction thereafter such that even when he made for his exit, a large crowd escorted him with drummers and trumpeters cheering up.
