OBJ @ Zik Prize Event: The Name Always Does It For Him!

Different strokes for different people. Personality matters no doubt. But it comes in different shapes – beauty, height, voice, dress sense, etc. And then there is, of course, the one that is simply derived by name, age, achievements nay, antecedents and characteristics.

Now, in the case of Nigeria’s two-times (khaki and agbada) occupant of the nation’s number one top seat, General (Chief), (Dr) Aremu Okikiola Olusegun Obasanjo, the latter seem to do it better for him.

Last Sunday at the Civic Centre (Victoria Island Lagos) venue of the annual Zik Prize Awards, the event’s programme automatically changed once he breezed in. Yet he was neither the Chairman nor an awardee!

And don’t blame the organizers: You can’t keep an ‘’iroko tree’’ like OBJ waiting or standing if he attends your event. So, even as there was an ongoing session, his presence instantly dwarfed. In fact the ovation his entry drew alone was enough to do that. He simply stole the show!

Before long the microphone was handed over to him, And trust him, he reeled out suiting words about the man whose name is being immortalized with the awards, the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe; the event itself and the organizers, the awardees and other burning issues.

Popular name, definitely, is mightier than anything, many concluded.
