Mass Exodus Hits Biafran Party, UPP As Party Is Thrown Into Crises In Anambra

Barely 48 hours after the United Progressive Party conducted its gubernatorial primaries in Awka, there has been a mass exodus of party faithful from the party.

Apparently exiting due to what has been described by stakeholders as a rape and murder of democracy, four of the seven guber aspirants have indicated interest in leaving the party with their teeming followers.

One of the aspirants, Barrister Paul Obianaso who was among those who paid the sum of N500, 000 to the party to indicate interest in contesting listed reasons why he resigned from the UPP.
In his letter dated 20th August,2017, the aspirant who is also a pastor said that he discovered several legal and constitutional issues within the party, serious enough to rob it of victory if challenged in court.

He explained that despite questions he raised, no answers were given by the party, a development that forced him to conclude that UPP lacked the machinery for internal democracy.

He also cited the crises that engulfed the primaries, leading to the death of a Ward chairman, stating that the crises is far from over, and would revisit the party in due course.

Part of the statement read: "the manipulation of the delegate list which started over a month has remained largely unchanged despite the hues and cries of party members across board. I believe that the problems arising from this will linger on after the primaries and well into the week of elections.

"The party leadership both at national and Anambra is basically controlled by one man  whose tolerance for opinions of others is next to zero. The tendencies which led to crisis in APGA are even higher in UPP and this cannot be ignored. Anambra, Ndi Igbo are fed up with external influences and usurpers of power, who only want power and to subjugate the very people from whom state powers constitutionally derive.
"I have analytically appraised the party position on the Biafra issue and I came to the sad conclusion that the party is actually, along with other aspirants playing to the gallery regarding the Biafra issue. This is evident in the experience MOBIN is presently having in the party.

The criminologist who claims that God told him that he will rule Anambra State affirmed that even if UPP wins the elections, the multifarious issues militating against the party will render any such victory null and void. He therefore urged his supporters to be on hold as he will soon be showing them the direction God is leading for him to go.

Also this morning, a two- time member of the Federal House of Representatives and pro-Biafran aspirant for the guber under the UPP, Honourable Chudi Offodile has just resigned from the party.

Addressing newsmen in Awka, Offodile described the primaries as a kangaroo exercise, since the strange names that found their way into the party's delegate register were the ones allows by the party to vote, whereby genuine delegates were denied voting. According to him, he had handed over a protest letter to the electoral committee chairman, Chief Ejike Uche, and the party chairman for Anambra State, Dr Sylvester Igwilo, before moving to INEC office to drop another protest letter.

He had also narrated how he rushed to the hospital to see Maduabuchi Uwakwe, only to get there to learn he has died from teargas asphyxiation "the UPP constitution provides for five delegates per Ward-chairman, secretary, treasurer, woman leader and youth leader. Late Maduabuchi was lucky that his name appeared in both the authentic and illegal list. Equally lucky were the youth leader and the woman leader but the secretary and treasurer were yanked off list and replaced with unknown persons. Only the Ward congress can replace these elected officers but the national chairman Chekwas Okorie unilaterally replaced elected officers of the party. He replicated these whimsical replacements in about 264 wards across the state, giving him preference shares in the primaries and in his dream government in Anambra State.

"It was while struggling to ensure that his less fortunate colleagues were let into the venue for accreditation that Maduabuchi met his untimely death", he stated sadly.

He noted that Chief Chekwas Okorie allegedly singlehandedly manipulated the list, and that such crass display of insensitivity was appalling to him, hence his resignation from the party. Offodile therefore urged his teeming supporters and everyone who believed in the Biafran ideology of equality, freedom and justice to await further directives.

Meanwhile, two other aspirants, Obumneke Okafor and Comrade Ugochukwu Onwuka have indicated that they will be exiting the party with their supporters in the coming days.

Also there are strong indications that Movement Of Biafrans in Nigeria, MOBIN are planning a mass exodus along with their members across the country and in the diaspora. The Director General, Rita Eberechukwu Anigbogu told our correspondent on the phone that they are putting heads together at the moment and would come up with a position very soon.
