Befitting Red Carpet, Drum Beats For Yabatech at 70!

Age 70 is no mean feat to achieve. And the celebration mood is here as Nigeria’s thriving and pioneer citadel of learning, Yaba College of Technology is set to mark it all with lots of thrilling activities.
And Tuesday, October 17 has been set aside for the august event slated for the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu Lagos.

With the support of the College Governing Council and Management, its Almuni Association at home and in the Diaspora has concluded arrangements to kickstart the event with a workshop ‘’Business Financing in a Depressed Economy.’’

Pastor Oluwafemi O. Martins, President of the association who disclosed this at a media parley, explained that it will serve as a way of contributing to the dissection of economic issues within the country.

And guess what? The nation’s number two citizen, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo,  is expected to serve as ‘’Distinguished Special Guest of Honour’’ to give the opening remarks while the Budget and National Planning Minister, Senator Udo Udoma will deliver the key note address.

Former deputy governor of the Central Bank, Mr Tunde Lemo will serve as the chairman. Plus, expectedly, a host of other dignitaries to speak on other burning issues.

"The idea of this workshop is a fall out of a think-thank committee on the nation’s economy as it affects education particularly technological education development in Nigeria. We will continue to campaign for and champion Nigeria’s journey to meeting UNESCO’s 26% minimum allocation recommendation in every country’s budget,’’ Pastor Martins said.

Yaba College of Technology, he added, deserves to be celebrated at 70 by the Nigerian because, ‘’it has trained some of the greatest Nigerians and best artists in Africa and had its engineering students ranked amongst the best five globally for several years.’’

The institution’s Alumni includes a former vice-president, late Rear Admiral Aikhomu, late Arch. Layi Balogun, Engr John Ediale, Enginr. J.O Ogundipe, Igwe (Engr.) Godson Adiukwu, Sir Victor Uwaifor and a host of others.
