Exit of a Lion: Premier Records Mourn Ras Kimono

As more people are mourning the sudden death of Reggae icon, the Rub-a-dub master, Ras Kimono, his record label, Premier Records Limited and its subsidiary, Premier Music Publishing Company Limited have added their voice in commiserating with his family.

In a statement signed by its Managing Director, Mr. Toju Ejueyitchie and made available to samurahh.com, the company went memory lane to recount its relationship with Kimono who has been with them for 30 years.
It reads:

“The board, management and staff of Premier Records Limited and its subsidiary, Premier Music Publishing Company Limited were on Sunday June 10, 2018 greeted with the debilitating news of the passing on of Ras Kimono from the terrestrial world.

His relationship with the company began exactly 30 years ago when he signed a contract with Polygram Records Limited (as we were known then) for the release of his monster hit, ‘Under Pressure’ in 1988. Thereafter he went on to produce several iconic evergreen reggae hits which have ruled the airwaves and have become household sing-song over the years.

“He was the epitome of peace. He never created enmity but sought to make peace even in the most difficult circumstance.

His philosophy of life, which was to see the unification of all black people all over the world encouraged him to travel to several continents including places as far as Papua New Guinea. His idea of perfect happiness was for all mankind to see themselves as one. It is no wonder that many of his songs preached against injustice.
He was once asked; “are you under pressure?” His response was, “Yes. Everybody is under pressure.” So, “what’s Gwan?” His response: “Run Fi Cover.”
“Kimono, you are now under the cover of the Most High God. You will surely be missed.”
