Alliance Française de Lagos To Host ‘Music’ Joint Photography Exhibition Thursday 26th July

Join us Thursday 26th July at 2pm at Alliance Française de Lagos as we launch ‘Music’ a collective photography exhibition.

In June 2018, in the frame of the World Music Day Celebrations, Alliance Française Lagos asked photographers to submit pictures illustrating their idea of « Music ». What seemed easy at first became a challenge. Dozens of entries were received, and the selection process proved to be laborious.

How to depict such an abstract yet familiar concept? In a city such as Lagos, music is everywhere, from the car horns, the damfo conductors’ chants, creating melodies to attract potential customers, to the open air parties for naming ceremonies or weddings. But, how to translate daily scenes in still images? And what is music in the first place?

“a pattern of sounds made by musical instrumentsvoices, or computers, or a combination of these, intended to give pleasure to people listening to it.” That’s a definition of music, and indeed Adekunle Ajayi, Ademola Akinlabi, JB Mairubutu, Afolabi Damilare, Benson Ibeabuchi, Bolaji Oluwatosin, Opeyemi Balogun, Nguher Zaki, Justin Makangara, Anthony Obayomi, Olatunji Obasa, Selorm Jay, Boomy Tii and Omoregie Osakpolor will definitely give you pleasure and talk to your senses with their exquisite, colourful and  versatile depiction of music.
